With a keen focus on sustainable innovation, Donna & Cheryl’s works redefine materiality through inventive practices such as bioplastics, kombucha leather, natural dyeing with food waste, and heat-molded textiles. About our speakers

Donna Cleveland
Donna Cleveland is an Associate Professor and the Deputy Dean of School, School of Communication and Design, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Vietnam. Her research in the field of sustainable design, articulates fashion and textiles thinking and systems. Her practice is engaged with issues of materiality, making and resilience across areas of art, design and creative technology.

Coordinator: Artist Tran Thao Mien
Trần Thảo Miên is an installation and visual artist. After graduating from the University of the Art London, majoring in Textiles, Mien has developed her embroidery techniques using monofilament yarn on various types of fashion waste and found natural elements. Guided by the diverse tapestry of Southeast Asian culture along with her endless curiosity of modern environmental science, Mien intertwines spiritual essence into her soft textured sculptures, embodying reverence for “Vạn vật hữu linh” – Vietnamese beliefs of the individuality and equality of every living being on Earth, she reimagines the order of nature, questioning established hierarchies that lie beyond human grasp. Mien co-founded Vietnam Design award-winning Collective Sonson in 2020, and ddur.production – an open collective that supports artists realizing exhibition projects.
